US, Qatar discuss expanding Al-Udeid military base

The United States and Qatar have talked about extending an army installation in the Gulf State, the State Department has declared. 

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Khalid canister Mohammad Al Attiyah on Wednesday in Washington. 

 

Secretary of State Spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in an explanation that the senior authorities talked about "progressing in the direction of a Middle East Strategic Alliance" and "the development of Al-Udeid Airbase." 

The United States and Qatar have discussed expanding a military base in the Gulf State, the State Department has announced.

Qatar is home to America's biggest army installation in the Gulf, Al-Udeid, where nearly 10,000 US troops are positioned and from which Washington sends warplanes utilized in the fight against the Islamic State gathering. 

A month ago, the US said it would select a minister to Qatar, following a 16-month hole amid which Doha has been at the focal point of a local strategic emergency.
