Qatar's third Local Dates Festival, organised by the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in Souq Waqif, successfully finished on Saturday, following several weeks of busy activity.
The 17-day festival was part of Qatar's keenness to support and encourage local production of all national products, including dates in order to achieve food security.
The festival aimed to introduce the public to various types of quality dates produced locally including among others, khanizi, khalas, hilali, barhi and arziz varieties. It also aimed to help farmers improve the quality of dates and increase the quantum of production.
Moreover, it went for supporting the proprietors of palm trees and date homesteads and giving them the essential help to embrace the most advanced strategies, as far as creation and care of palm trees.
The festival is likewise part of the MME's endeavors to feature the critical part of dates in the nearby culture and custom.
