Vehicle owners no longer need to go to the General Directorate of Traffic to renew their vehicle registration. It can now be done online, using either the MOI e-services portal or the Metrash2 mobile app. This new service is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to go paperless.
The registration card can be sent to the owner’s preferred address through Qatar Post (QPost). It can also be personally claimed at any Traffic Service Center.
Steps for Istimara Renewal
- Cars that are more than three years old must undergo vehicle inspection
- Complete insurance procedures
- Log on to the online platforms (either at MOI e-services or Metrash2 app)
- Select Traffic Services
- Choose Vehicle Registration Renewal, provide vehicle plate number, choose the correct type of registration, and confirm supplied details
Once the online transaction is completed, vehicle owners can pay the registration fee using credit card (for individuals) or direct debit from bank account (for companies). This new service from MOI is applicable to all types of vehicles, including those that are privately-owned, and government and company-owned. Online registration can be done at all hours, any time of the day.
Aside from vehicle registration, the Metrash2 app can also be used for other transactions or avail of services from MOI. Without leaving one’s home, Qatar nationals and residents can use their smart phones to inquire about official documents, create and pay for exit permits, inquire about traffic violations, and receive accident and vehicle permit reports. Should MOI add new services, these will automatically appear in the Metrash2 list of services.
Activation of Metrash2 app is free. Registration can be done through SMS or on a self-service kiosk. Those who want to apply should have a valid Smart ID card and mobile number registered to the applicant. Metrash2 app can be downloaded on Google Play or Apple Store.
